He went on leave to England in May 1850 for six months. He was a member of the Executive Council of St Kitts in 1862 and President of the Legislative Council in 1863 (and in 1872?). He had earlier been a member of the House of Assembly (in 1834). He earned £120 a year as Postmaster of St Kitts, and was one of eight Guardians of the Poor. His will was made on 8 December 1876. He left "to my dear wife Jane Berridge all my real and personal estate whatsoever to her her heirs or assigns and I appoint the said Jane Berridge to be my sole executrix." It was entered in the Book of Wills B No 1, no 23475, folio 285, by Wm Berridge.
